The construction of the pedestrian footbridge at Plaza Imperial has finally been scheduled. Yesterday, Plaza S.A., the management company for the Logistics Platform of Zaragoza, awarded the project, whose value excluding VAT is 177,000 euros, to a temporary consortium created by Marian Lopez Navarro and Acciona. The 40 meter-long structure is scheduled to be completed “before the end of the year”. “We have established a four-month time frame for the execution of work that will begin in July, although, optimistically, it could be completed in September,” remarked Ricardo García Becerril, General Manager of the joint venture whose partners are the Government of Aragon, the city of Zaragoza, and savings banks Ibercaja, and Caja de Ahorros de la Inmaculada.
The award of the contract was approved yesterday by the advisory committee in a summary proceeding “due to community pressure and taking into account the affordability of the project”. “Three companies were invited to participate in the tender and the company that had previously undertaken the urbanization of Plaza, also the lowest bidder in this case, was awarded the contract,” explained García Becerril.
This was a fundamental detail, as the works have gone forward without the prior approval for the modification of the project from the Provincial Highway Department. “It was necessary to locate the pillars of the footbridge in a place other than the median that separated the opposing lanes of traffic and outside the walkway, which implied positioning them in the zone reserved for the installation of water pipes, electric power lines, telephone cables, and other utilities. It made sense to hire the same contractor that had undertaken those installations,” the General Manager pointed out. The Government of Aragon must approve other changes as well, such the specification of pillars that can withstand vehicular impact at a velocity of 80 km/h and the stipulation of a 5.5 meter clearance.
Plaza S.A. is pleased to have been able to bring Procom, promoter of the commercial area comprised of Plaza Imperial and a mid-sized company industrial park, into the project as an investor. Procom will contribute 70,000 euros with Plaza assuming the balance of the total project cost. |
