The ascent in freight traffic at Zaragoza airport contrasts with a new loss of air passengers. This is the good and bad side of airport traffic in 2009, which continued at the start of this year. The official data from Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) relating to last month confirmed this tendency, with an increase of 42.4% in freight traffic and a drop of 4.8% regarding passengers in the year-to-year balance.
Freight was the strong point for the Zaragoza airport, with 3,360 tonnes, representing 7.2% of all of the freight volume transported in Spain. Moreover, it showed more differences with its main competitor: Vitoria. It moved 63.3% more than the Vitoria airport. On the other hand, the number of passengers recorded negative numbers again despite having started off the year with a slight increase in most Spanish airports (3% more), a different tendency compared to last year. A total of 29,419 people used Zaragoza airport in January, while the Huesca-Pyrenees airport recorded 1,525 travellers, equalling figures of January 2009. |
