The Railway Infrastructure Administrator (ADIF) and the Government of Aragón have made an important decision about the construction of the second AVE Zaragoza statioin in order to speed up work to build the passenger terminal as soon as possible. The creation of this building, 1,350 square metres, was foreseen for a third stage of work after the one that is being carried out now, to separate the conventional width tracks, conduits, passages and a second stage to install more tracks, electricity and signals.
FINAL PART OF STAGE I While final details are being taken care of for the second stage of the project, work continues. In fact, as explained by the Regional Government (DGA), "the first stage is in its final stage" and it is estimated" to finish work in two or three months". That explains that "by the end of the year 1.7 million euros of investment have been certified".
Although start up of the second AVE station has been speed up, ADIF calculates that it will need 18 more months to finish the project as stated by the Aragonese President, Marcelino Iglesias, in his latest visit to the construction site. A minimum of 24 months that, following the administrative process (the contract will be awarded between July and August of this year and work will begin in autumn), will be needed to finish the building and the second stage by 2012, which means that if the contract is not awarded earlier the station in Pla-Za will not be finished until 2013. |
