The Councillor of Public Works, Development and Transport of the Government of Aragón and Chairman of PLAZA’s Board of Directors, Alfonso Vicente, the Managing Director of the Public Agency of Ports in Andalucía,  José Salgueiro Carmona and the President of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras, Manuel Morón, signed a collaboration agreement this morning to develop logistic and port activities of common interest.

The aim of the agreement, which will have a duration of three years, is to start up different projects and measures like mutual promotion with customers and operators of the advantages of PLAZA and the Bay of Algeciras; the promotion of the Bay of Algeciras Port as a basic centre of redistribution and maritime channelling of products that are made and handled by companies located in PLAZA.

Another objective is to promote signing agreements with operators at the Bay of Algeciras Port with interest in developing logistic operations in PLAZA. Moreover, what interests both parties is the receptions and transmission of accumulated experiences in logistics and modal interchange such as exchanging know-how about planning, management and development of intermodality and the combined and multi-modal transport in the Logistic Platform of PLAZA and the Zone of Activities (ZAL) of the Bay of Algeciras.

Another one of the objectives of this agreement is to set up studies that enable the creation of a stable connection between the Port and the ZAL Bay of Algeciras and the Logistic Platform of Zaragoza in order to develop a port freight corridor in the framework of the current Iberian Peninsula central railway. Plus, PLAZA could be used as a dry port for maritime merchandise distribution from the Port of Algeciras.

Lastly, this agreement, which was signed today, wants to use the Logistic Platform of, Zaragoza as an intermodal (road-train) transfer centre for maritime merchandise by connecting the Port of Algeciras to other ports by using land connections that are more efficient than the sea routes.
